Abstract

1,167,495. Buttons. BUTTONS Ltd. 10 Jan., 1967 [27 Jan., 1966], No. 3648/66. Heading A3H. A button comprises a head part 11 with projections 17, a shank with an elliptical cross section and a boss 16 extending therefrom and which passes through the fabric and is secured by a dished resilient washer 22. The washer has an inturned part provided with a central hole and slits to provide resilient teeth 24, which grip the boss 16. A cover 20 for the washer has an inturned flange 21 which grips one side of the fabric. The shank has two projections 17 which grip the other side of the fabric. Alternatively for use as a dummy button the shank terminates in the plane of the button the head part which has an annular groove, providing a rim. The button is attached to the fabric by a rod having a socket at one end to accommodate the boss and a point at the other end, which point is inserted into one side of the fabric to provide the hole for the boss and the rod is withdrawn from the other side. The washer and cover are then attached to the boss. The boss may have an annular grrove in which the washer fits. The washer is made of spring metal or plastics and the button is made of metal or plastics.
