Abstract

936,545. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 29, 1961 [Dec. 15, 1960], No. 35090/61. Class 38 (5). An air-blast circuit-breaker having a contact chamber permanently filled with compressed air and a piston-driven nozzle moving contact has a throttled connection between the low pressure side of the piston and the contact chamber to control the contact movement. As shown, the nozzle movable contact 4 is connected to a piston 6, one side of which defines a space 8 connectable to the atmosphere or to the compressed air system. The space 7 above the piston is connected by a throttle 17 and a bypass non-return valve 18 with the compressed air container 1. When compressed air is supplied to the space 8 to equalize the pressures on the piston 6, the pressure difference at the contact 4, 11 overcomes the closing bias of a spring 12 to open the contacts and a valve 21 allows air to pass from the space 7 during initial piston movement. After the piston has passed the valve 21, the pressure in space 7 increases to check the contact movement which is completed as the pressure is equalized through the throttle 17. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the valve 21 is omitted and the throttle is part of the valve 18.
