Abstract

1,178,324. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 26 May, 1967 [27 May, 1966], No. 24603/67. Addition to 936,545. Heading H1N. In an air-blast circuit-breaker as described in the parent Specification the throttled connection 13 between the low pressure space 7 at one side of the piston 6 and the contact chamber (not shown) has a damping piston 31 which passes through a hole 35 in a plate 32 to slow the movement of the piston 8 when the movable contact (Fig. 1, not shown) has reached a distance from its co-operating fixed contact that is favourable for arc extinction. A second damping piston 40 enters the hole 35 toward the end of the movement of the piston 8 to limit contact bounce. When the piston 8 is moved to close the contacts the plate 32 can move to expose vent holes 36 so that the pistons 31, 40 do not delay the contact closure. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the connection 13 is in the piston 8 which carries the plate 32 for co-operation with pistons 31, 40 on a rod 33 attached to the wall of the main cylinder.
