In producing multi-course, single- or multilayer sheets from loose material, e.g. wood chips, chips of the same or different sizes are continuously discharged from stationary hoppers a 1 , a2, as into a plurality of identical pallets c arranged in tandem to form a train which is moved step-wise in cycles through distances equal to the length of a pallet, each cycle comprising at least two steps foward and at least one step back. The pallets are preferably carried on an automatically-controlled alternately forward-and-back stepping conveyer f, e.g. an endless belt or line roller bed, with a table or an intermittently operably conveyer d, g at both its entry and delivery ends, for automatically supplying and removing the pallets, which are separated by frames h defining the lengths of the sheets.
