Abstract
A siloxane composition curable at room temperature consists essentially of a mixture of (A) 10 to 70% (by weight) of an organopolysiloxane resin containing at least 0,5 mol. per cent of Si-bonded OH or OR groups and a ratio of alkyl and/or aryl radicals to Si within the range of 1:1 to 1,7:1, and (B) 30 to 90% of a filler, and as curing system (C) 1 to 10% of an organosilicon compound free from Si-bonded inorganic acid anionic radicals and containing more than 2 functional atoms or radicals per molecule, and (D) 1 to 10% of a condensation catalyst, the amounts of (C) and (D) being based on the weight of (A)+(B). The resins (A) may be made by methods as described in Specification 728,202 and U.S.A. Specification 2,842,521. Other components specified are: fillers (B)-asbestos, mica and quartz meals, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth, precipitated SiO2, ZnO, MgO, Fe2O3, glass frit, fibres and wool, rock wool, metal powders, soot, cork powder and sawdust; basic fillers, such as ZnO and MgO, accelerate the cure; cross-linking agents (C)-alkyl and aryl ortho-and poly-silicates, (RO)mSiH4-m, alkoxy organosiloxanes and organohydrogensiloxanes; and catalysts (D)-tin ricinoleate, cobalt naphthenate, chromacetylacetonate, lead salt of mercaptobenzthiazole, zinc ethylphenyldithiocarbamate, oxides of Hg, Cd and Pb, phenylmercuryacetate, dibutyltindilaurate, triethanolamine, polyethylene imine, boric acid and oleic acid. Pigments, oxidation inhibitors and solvents may also be added. Examples are given. The surfaces of the compositions may be coated with alkyl titanates to increase the curing rate and to produce harder surfaces. Uses: For coating surfaces of cement, plaster, metal or wood, with or without priming of the surfaces with alkyl titanates or organosilicon compounds; as fillers or coatings for floors and walls; as street-marking paints and sealants for concrete and bricks; and as acid-resistant coatings in containers.
