Abstract
926,818. Swaging machines. APPEL PROCESS Ltd. Aug. 20, 1959 [Sept. 10, 1958], No. 28435/59. Class 83 (4). A swaging machine has a number of radially acting dies 23 forming a throat for receiving a workpiece 24 and actuated by die movers 22, the workpiece being fed longitudinally through the throat in out of phase relationship with the die strokes. The die movers 22 are actuated by eccentrically driven transversely movable driver rods 10 having cams 13 backed by rollers 11 and plates 14, and acting on the movers 22 through rollers 12, 21 and intermediate pieces 20. The backing plates 14 are adjustable by wedges 16 for varying the die stroke as described in Specification 835,322. Each die 23 is preferably of segmental form, Fig. 7, rotatable through linkage 47, 45, 44 by a shaft 43 driven through gearing by a ring gear 39, Fig. 5 (not shown), common to all the dies so that they are rotated simultaneously and stepwise out of phase with the swaging strokes. The working face of each die may be eccentric to shaft 43 whereby the size of the throat varies as the dies are rotated. Alternatively the working faces may be concentric or they may be stepped. In another embodiment, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), each die extends through 315 degrees and is mounted on a spoked centre. Rubber mountings permit movement of the dies relatively to their shafts during the swaging strokes. Specifications 797,518 and 926,819 also are referred to.
