911,802. Cylinder - lifting arrangement. MEYER, H. E., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK M. KROENERT KOMM. GES.]. Sept. 1, 1960 [July 1, 1960], No. 30116/60. Class 100 (2). A lifting system for lifting the image cylinder of a rotary photogravure printing machine of the type wherein an adjustably mounted image cylinder is underneath a fixedly mounted impression cylinder, towards the impression cylinder is characterized in that the system lifting the image cylinder, journalled in rocker arms, operates against a counter-force which increases as the image cylinder moves from its rest position to its working position. In the described embodiment the contact pressure between the image and impression cylinders 4, 5 is controlled by mechanism disposed at each side of the machine and comprising a pneumatically-operated pistonrod 9 which is used to swing the cylinder 4 upwards against the cylinder 5 against the increasing counter-force exerted by a spring 14. The springs 14, which are adjustable, are extended as the lifting system moves from the lower, inoperative position, to the upper or working position, and consume a part of the power produced by pneumatic cylinders 8 such that high-velocity impact between the cylinders 4 and 5 is avoided. Instead of spring means the counter-force may be created by an additional piston cylinder arrangement. Counter-force control may also derive from the actuation in a desired manner of a throttle valve in the feeding line or lines of the cylinder 8.
