Abstract

Lubricants comprise a synthetic ester lubricating oil to which is added 0,01-2% by weight of the oil of a partial ester obtained by reacting 1,2-2 mols of a C4-C12 alkandioic acid with 1 mol of a C2-C36 glycol. The ester oil may be a diester, polyester or complex ester, e.g. the diesters obtained by esterifying a C4-C10 alkandioic acid with a C6-C13 alkanol especially oxo alcohols or of esterifying a glycol or polyglycol with a monocarboxylic acid, polyesters obtained from tri- and tetra-hydric alcohols and monocarboxylic acids and complex esters obtained from a dicarboxylic acid, a glycol or polyglycol and an alcohol and/or a monocarboxylic acid. The acid used in the formation of the partial ester may be adipic, sebacic, azelaic or isosebacic (mixture of C10 acids) acid and the glycol may be ethylene, propylene, butylene, pentylene, hexylene, octylene, polyethylene or polypropylene glycol. Optional ingredients are 0,0-10% of each of phenothiazine or phenyl-a -naphthylamine or p-aminodiphenylamine, a polymethacrylate or polystyrene and dimethyl silicone polymers.
