Abstract

910,074. Derricks. MANDELLI, A. June 15, 1961, No. 21619/61. Class 78 (4). Both the hoisting winch 16 and the topping winch 7 of a derrick are mounted on the boom 3, the topping cable 4 passing over a pulley 6 to the boom-supporting, structure. As described, both winches are driven by a motor 11 through worms 9, 18 and gears 8, 17. So that the winches may be used independently, a clutch 10 is provided. When the topping winch is operated, the hoisting winch also turns so that level luffing is provided. The motor could be arranged with its axis parallel to those of the winches and it and/or one or both of the winches could be placed above the boom. Alternatively, separate motors may be provided for the two winches.
