Abstract
917,565. Foundry ladles. DIDIER-WERKE A.G. May 13, 1960, No. 17085/60. Class 82 (1). A pouring nozzle for liquid metal includes an upstream portion whose cross-section decreases in the downstream direction, and has an axially movable tapered stopper inserted into the nozzle duct from the entry end, the taper angle of the stopper being less than that of the convergent upstream section of the duct. The whole of the duct may constitute the convergent section, as shown in Fig. 2, or the throat may be at an intermediate position, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In the preferred embodiment illustrated in Fig. 5, the throat is close to the entry end of the nozzle, the latter substantially coinciding with the inner surface of the nozzle block; the stopper may then have a wide cone angle. The portion of the nozzle incorporating the throat may be formed as a separate member of a refractory more wear-resistant than that used for the remainder of the nozzle.
