Abstract
914,534. Stoppers for ladle nozzles. MARSHALL & CO. (LOXLEY) Ltd., THOMAS. July 26, 1961 [July 29, 1960], No. 26519/60. Class 82 (1). A stopper for the nozzle of a molten metalpouring ladle comprises a metal rod 16 carrying a plurality of superimposed tubular refractory members 17 having spigot and socket fitment one with another, and a refractory composite stopper end comprising an upper component 10, e.g. of fire-clay, secured to the lower end of the rod 16 in spigot 21 and socket 22 engagement with the lowermost member 17, and a lower component 11, e.g. of plumbago, attached to the upper component 10 and having a nose for engaging the seating on a ladle nozzle. The fitment of the components may be by helicallythreaded socket 14 in the upper or lower component for engagement by the externally helically threaded spigot 15 of the lower or upper component. The upper part of component 10 may have a central bore 12 with counterbore 13 to support the component on flange 18 of the rod, as in Fig. 1. Alternatively, the component 10 may be secured to the rod by means of a bolt and cotter pin, as in Fig. 2 (not shown), or a threaded bolt, as in Fig. 3 (not shown), or the component may be threaded on to the lower end of the rod, as in Fig. 4 (not shown).
