Abstract

915,959. Surgical pumps. EUROSPITAL S.p.A. Nov. 24, 1960 [June 17, 1960], No. 40405/60. Class 81 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] A pulsatory rotary pump for extra-corporeal blood circulation, comprises a base 1, Fig. 1, having an arc-shaped cylindrical seat 3, against which a pair of parallel flexible flow pipes 15, 16, Fig. 2, adhere and a rotor 9 mounted on a shaft 5 supported at its ends in bearings 6. The rotor 9 carries at its ends on pivot pins 12 pairs of rollers 10, 11 which on rotation of the rotor, pump a pulsatory flow of blood through the tubes. The rhythm and pressure of the blood may be adjusted jointly by a speed variator fitted between the rotor and the motor driving it. Screw-threaded shafts 26 also co-operate with the internally threaded ends of the pivot pins 12 to simultaneously adjust the pins inwardly or outwardly with respect to the axis of the shaft 5 to get less or more squeezing of the tubes. The shafts 26 carry planet gears 25 which mesh with gears 23 which in turn mesh with twin gears 22 carried on a rod 21 operable by a knurled knob 20 and locked in adjusted position by another knurled knob 29.
