Abstract

915,298. Toothed gearing. BOON, V. N. March 22, 1960 [March 24, 1959], No. 10149/60. Class 80 (1). A coupling between relatively inclined shafts 11, 12, which are rotatable in forks 5, 6 hinged together at 7, is provided by intermeshing toothed flanges 1, 2 mounted on the spindle ends, at least one of the sets of teeth 3, 4 being parallel, or nearly parallel, to the shaft axis, and each tooth being in the form of a cylinder surmounted by a hemisphere. As shown, both sets of teeth are axially directed so that the coupling accommodates shaft angles from 0 to 90 degrees. In a modification, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), accommodating angles from 0 to 180 degrees, or slightly more, the teeth are of similar shape but those on one of the flanges are radially directed. The flanges 1, 2 may be flat, concave or convex.
