Abstract
The invention comprises o -ortho-chlorobenzylidene-, o - orthohydroxybenzylidene-, o -metahydroxybenzylidene-, and o -parachlorobenzylidene-2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone, together with a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula:- <FORM:0914248/IV (b)/1> (in which R, R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy or alkoxy substituents) by reacting substantially equi-molar amounts of 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone and an aromatic aldehyde of formula:- <FORM:0914248/IV (b)/2> in the presence of a strong mineral acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid. Detailed examples illustrate the invention.ALSO:Antispasmodic compositions comprise a compound of the formula <FORM:0914248/VI/1> (in which R, R1 and R2 are the same or different, and represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxy or alkoxy group) together with a pharmaceutical carrier. The compositions may be administered for the treatment of nephritic or kepatic colic or coronaritis or vasoconstrictive diseases, e.g. in the form of cachets, tablets, capsules or suppositories, or by injection. Pharmacological studies on several of the active compounds are also given in detail.
