A slider 20, Figs. 2 and 3, for a sliding clasp fastener comprising male and female strips 4, 5 having laterally disposed longitudinal slider guides 14, 15 and formed to interlock by relative lateral movement, comprises a body 21 dimensioned to straddle the fastener strips 4, 5 and carrying opposed closure members 43, 44 for engaging the slider guides and means for adjusting the separation of the closure members between a closure valve corresponding to the spacing of interlocked fastener strips and a release valve adequate to release the closure members from the slider guides to permit removal of the slider from the strips. The slider and closure members are divided into two halves and the adjusting means comprises a screw 30 by means of which the two halves of the slider body are moved towards or away from each other on a pair of guide pins (not shown). The fastener strips include slotted attachment flanges 16, 17 by which the strips may be heat sealed to material 6. In operation, the slider is applied in its released condition to an interlocked portion of the strips, and is then adjusted to its closure condition and traversed along the strips to interlock them together whereafter the slider may be readjusted to its release condition and removed from the strips for re-use on another fastener. The strips may be pulled apart by hand subsequent to release of a portion of the interlocked strips by the slider. In another arrangement, Figs. 5 and 7, the slider comprises a body 54 which carries a closure member part 58 and a push-pull member 59 comprising a pair of plates 60, 61 interconnected at their lower ends by a pair of rollers 64, 65. The latter co-operate with the part 58 when the member 59 is moved inwardly or outwardly of the body 54 to flex the part 58 and thereby engage or disengage respectively closure members 66, 67 with the slider guides of the fastener strips.
