Abstract
The invention comprises phthalocyanine dyes of the formula:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/1> where Pc is the radical of copper, nickel or iron phthalocyanine or of a copper phthalocyanine having 1 to 4 chlorine atoms or 1 to 4 phenyl radicals in the molecule, A is a covalent linkage, methylene, the group: <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/2> or the group: -SO2NH-R- where R is phenylene or a radical:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/3> or <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/4> D is a -CO- or -SO2- group, X is chlorine or bromine, m is a whole number from 0 to 7, n is a whole number from 1 to 4 and (n + m) is not greater than 8. The dyes are made by reacting one mol of a derivative of the formula:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/5> or <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/6> or <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/7> or <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/8> or <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/9> with n mols of an acid halide of the formula:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/100> or by reacting 1 mol of an acid chloride of the formula:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/111> with n mols of an amine of the formula:- <FORM:0903703/IV (b)/122> the unreacted sulphochloride groups being converted by hydrolysis into sulphonic acid groups, wherein Pc, D, X, n and m are as above and Z is hydrogen or sulphonic acid. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print textile materials of wool, silk, synthetic linear polyamides and of natural or regenerated cellulose. Green to blue shades are obtained.
