Abstract

903,643. Knitting-machines. GORDON, B. D. Oct. 22, 1959 [Feb. 2, 1959], No. 35826/59. Class 74 (2). Breast cups for a swimsuit or brassiere described in Specification 903,644 are fashioned on a fully fashioning machine by backracking of the fashioning points after the completion of each course so that continuous transfer of loops from the same needles in a widening direction is achieved. The needles effecting this fashioning form a group on one side of the centre-line of the cup. This effect is illustrated by the group AA<SP>1 </SP>in Fig. 1 and the eyelet formation created by widening movement of the transfer points is shown by the line A<SP>1</SP>B<SP>1</SP> in Fig. 1 or EF in Fig. 3, which occurs in a single wale. During the above loop transferring operation on one side of the fabric a normal loop transferring operation is made on the other side after the completion of each course so as to widen the fabric and create a line of openings A<SP>1</SP>1<SP>11</SP> or E<SP>1</SP>F<SP>1</SP> which extend across the fabric. After the widening operation a few courses are knitted during which the transfer points are not operated and subsequently the transfer points are given reverse movements to narrow the fabric. The front of the swimsuit or brassiere is knitted in two separate halves which are subsequently sewn together along their inner selvedges at 24.
