Abstract

794,564. Knitting. PILOT FULL FASHION MILLS, Inc. July 8, 1954 [Nov. 5, 1953], No. 20024/54. Class 74 (2). [Also in Group VII] A full-fashioned selvedged panty blank 12 is produced, from yarns including at least one stretch synthetic yarn, by knitting, in that order, a first plurality of courses to form a first body portion 23, a second plurality of courses to form a crutch portion 25 and a third. plurality of courses to form a second body portion 28, each course being knitted at least partly from said synthetic yarn and the blank being fashioned by widening and narrowing some of said portions to form fashioning marks such as 26, 27. Successive blanks are separated along areas 20 between lock-stitch or picot-stitch formations 22, 31 and each garment is completed by joining the front and back body portions along the selvedges, a waistband being added. Fashioning marks 41, 42 may indicate the points where seaming should begin. A reinforcement 21 may be provided along the entire length of each selvedge or only along the edges of the leg openings. The crutch portion has a reinforcement 34, fashioned at both ends at 36, 38 and preferably separated by a few wales from the selvedge reinforcement. An additional (e.g. rubber) yarn may be knitted in adjacent the upper edge of the garment. The reinforcement 21 may be omitted entirely and there may be sewn around the leg openings elastic, lace, or other ornamental material. The garment may be entirely of stretch yarn; or areas within the body portions may be interknitted with ordinary non-elastic yarn. The stretch yarns may have been produced from polyamide, polyester or polyacrylonitrile yarns.
