Abstract
902,893. Vapour burners. FRASER, R. P. Jan. 27, 1959, No. 2989/59. Class 75 (1). [Also in Group XII] Fluid fuel is vaporized before combustion in a stream of gaseous oxidant flowing in a flame tube 1 by passing finely-divided or gaseous fuel along a tubular duct 2 within the flame tube in the opposite direction to the flow of oxidant, so that immediately on leaving the duct 2 the fuel vapour flows over the surface of the duct to form with the oxidant a flame which envelops the duct to gasify the fuel within it. The exit end of the duct 2 may have a stabilizer cap 4, or it may be closed, a ring of exit holes 10, Fig. 3, being formed in the duct or branch ducts 11, Fig. 4, may deliver the fuel over the duct 2. The fuel supply end of the duct 2 may be open to recirculate combustion products, Figs. 3 and 4. A number of fuel supply nozzles may feed a single vaporizing duct, or a number of vaporizing ducts may be arranged in a single flame tube. A plug of catalytic material may be arranged within the heating duct, and the flame tube may be surrounded by an outer casing through which some of the oxidant flows so that the combustion in the flame tube is completed at its exit end.
