Abstract

901,444. Bobbin loading and unloading devices for stranding machines. BARRON & CROWTHER Ltd. Dec. 16, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1958], No. 41708/58. Class 109. A bobbin loading and unloading device for a stranding machine comprises a frame pivotally mounted about an axis parallel to the axis of the machine and having a cradle at one end by which a full bobbin may be raised to a loading station as an empty bobbin is simultaneously lowered. The rotor 13 of a tubular stranding machine is provided with ports 15, 16 for entry of bobbins 18 and rails 41 along which the bobbin flanges roll. A full bobbin 18 is placed in a cradle 25 attached to a frame 24 and simultaneously an empty bobbin in the machine is rolled into contact with a wall 20 and a transverse member 34 also on the frame 24. The frame is then pivoted about a point 25 by a motor so that the full bobbin can be rolled on to the rails 41 and hence into operative position in the rotor 13 while at the same time the empty bobbin rolls down the wall 20 and along a ramp 22, completed by the member 34, to a stop 38, whence it can be removed from the machine at leisure. The rotor 13 may be formed of plates joined by bars, and the rails 41 in this case are replaced by ramps extending over the bars. Each frame 24 may serve three bobbin positions. It is also stated that the loading and unloading means may be mechanically interconnected platforms or cradles, or pneumatic or hydraulic jacks.
