901,375. Explosively-actuated tools for firing nails and the like. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS DE RECHERCHES MINIERES ET INDUSTRIELLES S.A. Dec. 1, 1958 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 5958/60. Divided out of 901,373. Drawings to Specification. Class 119. An explosively actuated tool for firing studs, nails and pins with a barrel movable relative to its breech and with a detachable splinter-guard comprises an axially stationary ring which is elastically contractable to engage the barrel and prevent it from moving, but is disengaged from the barrel by means on the splinter-guard when the latter is assembled. The ring is split diametrally and urged in by an elastic sleeve surrounding it. The means comprises a tubular extension rearwards on the splinter-guard which enters and expands the ring when the guard is assembled. This mechanism forms part of an explosively actuated tool which is described in Specifications 901,373 and 901,374; this and the latter Specifications having been divided out of the former.
