Abstract

1382019 Percussive tools ATLAS COPCO AB 11 July 1973 33159/73 Heading B4C A tool retainer comprises a sleeve 1 of resilient material and a latch 7 movable between the active position shown where it projects into the axial passage of the sleeve to retain the tool and an inactive position to allow passage of the collar 4 and withdrawal of the tool, the latch being lockable in the active position by snapping it past a portion 13, 14 of the sleeve. As shown, the sleeve 1 is snapped on to a tool holder 2 and is provided with a pair of lugs 13, 14 which snap over the latch handle 8 when this is pivoted by an operator's foot to bring an abutment surface 11 into the path of the collar 4. The sleeve and tool holder may have interengaging lugs at 18 to allow angular adjustment for left- or right-handed use; alternatively, angular adjustment may be accomplished by the provision of a non-circular tool holder which allows four different positions, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). In this embodiment, the latch (20) is in the form of a rod which is movable along its own axis into and out of the axial passage of the sleeve, the rod being provided with a snap action stop arrangement (23) in the form of an annular groove in the rod and a co-operating projection on the resilient sleeve. A secondary stop arrangement of further grooves and projections (24, 25, 26) prevents the latch from falling completely out of the sleeve.
