909,046. Change-speed gear. SHER, W. P. March 30, 1961 [Oct. 25, 1960], No. 36628/60. Class 80 (2). A change-speed gear for a portable powerdriven tool comprises three pinions A, B, C on the driving shaft engageable by a sliding triple pinion unit A 1 , B 1 , C 1 movable along the parallel driven shaft 4 by a fork 5 carried by a spring-loaded manual push rod 6. Normally the rod 6 is fully projected by its spring 8 so that the lowest ratio pinions A, A 1 are in mesh, the higher ratios being engaged by pressing the rod 6 into positions in which its end is engaged and held by spring- loaded plungers 9, 10 projecting through the casing 3. The arrangement may be modified to provide a higher number of gear ratios.
