Abstract

[Also in Group XX] In a developing machine in which liquid developer is applied to an exposed photographic paper, either by a roller or by passing the paper through a bath of the liquid, before leaving the machine the paper passes over an absorbent roller formed of or surfaced with a rigid porous material. In the arrangement shown, liquid is applied to the paper 18 by a transfer roller 10 rotating in contact with a supply roller 11 dipping into a supply trough 12. The paper then passes between a rubber-covered pressure roller 24 and an absorbent roller 20 of a porous rigid material, for example porous ceramic, or sintered stainless steel. Thus excess of liquid at the trailing edge 25 of the paper is removed. The roller 20 rests on a pair of small support rollers 23. The speed of movement of the various parts may be as described in Specification 890,530.
