Abstract
907,930. Latches. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. March 2, 1961 [March 10, 1960], No. 8444/60. Class 44. A latch which closes automatically comprises a keeper 13, a bolt 10 and a bifurcated bolt 11 both of which are pivoted to a base-plate and are biased to the fully open position by a spring 24. By providing a locking lever 14 and a control lever 15 two distinct operations are necessary in order to open the latch, the first movement only partially opening the latch. The bolts 10, 11 are connected by a link 21 pivoted to each and the locking and control levers 14, 15 are pivoted on opposite sides of the bolt 11, and are connected by a spring 16, a Bowden cable 17 serving to move the two levers relative to one another. In the closed position the locking lever engages an abutment 20 on the bolt 10 and the side of the control lever 15 engages the side of the link 21. When the cable 17 is pulled the locking lever is moved anticlockwise to release the bolt 10 which moves until an abutment 22 on the link 21 engages an abutment 23 on the control lever 15. Release of the cable 17 makes the control lever move anticlockwise to disengage the abutments 22, 23, the bolt 10 then moving to the partially open position in which the abutment 20 co-operates with an abutment 25 on the locking lever. Further operation of the cable or manual operation of the locking lever releases the abutments 20, 25 to open the latch fully. A further spring 27 connects the bolt 10 to the locking lever, control lever assembly to ensure correct positioning of these levers.
