Abstract

907,092. Reaping machines. FRITZMEIER, R. Aug. 16, 1960 [Aug. 22, 1959], No. 28387/60. Class 6(3). A dust-confining hood 4 is provided on a combine-harvester between the driver's seat 5 and the cutting mechanism 1 and extending over the full width of the latter, at least the upper part of the hood being transparent so that the driver, while shielded from dust, has a full view of the cutter-bar. The hood comprises a flexible cover stretched over a collapsible framework 9, 10, 11, 12, the sides 7 and rear part 8 of the cover being of canvas and the top part being of transparent polyvinyl chloride. The hood is readily collapsed, as shown in Fig. 4, but is held extended by a strut 18 which is wedged between the transverse cross-members 10, 12 and has a depression to accommodate the central strut 13. A fan 21 may be provided beneath the hood to exhaust dust laterally of the vehicle the fan being driven by a belt 25 from the shaft 23 of the cross-auger 24.
