Abstract

891,135. Facilitating flow of material in a hopper. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. May 2, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 16022/59. Class 78 (1). Coal in hopper 21 is agitated to avoid " bridging " by an agitator 100 which carries pivoted arms 42. The agitator is universally jointed at 46 to piston 32 of reciprocating fluid cylinder 31. As the agitator reciprocates, the arms 42 on the downstroke engage stops 43, and in this position the arms dislodge material within the hopper. Two such agitators may be employed. The material is discharged at 24 from the hopper by reciprocating pusher 63. A flow-sensitive device may be installed in the hopper outlet so as to start the reciprocation of the agitator when the flow falls below a predetermined value.
