Abstract
An insulating oil comprises a substantially saturated hydrocarbon oil containing a minor amount of a sec-alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon having a boiling point at atmosphere pressure of not less than 200 DEG C. whereby the gassing and power factor characteristics of the oil are improved. The additive may be o-di-isopropylbenzene, m-di-isopropylbenzene, p-di-isopropylbenzene, 1,3,4-triisopropylbenzene, 1,2,4-triisopropylbenzene, 1,2,4,5-tetraisopropylbenzene, 1,4 diisopropylnaphthalene, phenylcyclopentane, phenylcyclohexane, p-di(cyclohexyl)benzene, 4-cyclohexylbiphenyl, 4,41di(cyclohexyl)biphenyl, 1,4-diphenylcyclohaxane, b -cyclohexylnaphthalene, or 9-cyclohexylanthracene. From 0\1m5 to 20% by weight of the additive may be present. The oil may be used for cables, transformers, capacitors, circuitbreakers, and bushings.
