Abstract
895,034. Pipe-laying machines. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Sept. 26, 1960 [Oct. 15, 1959], No. 32951/60. Class 99(2). In a pipe-laying tractor-mounted boom including two spaced upstanding legs 11, means are provided to tilt the boom for improving distribution of weight supported thereby when the vehicle is disposed on an incline and comprises pivotal connections between the lower ends of the legs and the vehicle, a link 16 extending between and pivoted to the legs adjacent the upper ends thereof, and a poweractuated, extensible member between the link and one of the legs. As shown, the legs are secured to one side of a tractor 10 by universal hinge connections 13 so as to permit the top of the boom to swing longitudinally and outwardly to one side of the tractor, the link 16 having extension 18 to which are pivotally connected hydraulic jacks 19. The link 16 supports blocks 21, 22 through which a cable 23 passes to provide a fall which supports a cradle 24 provided with anti-friction rollers 26; the cable passes through a fairlead 25 to a winch.
