Abstract

895,011. Coating webs. BONE BROS. Ltd., BROWNE, N. F., and COOK, H. C. Nov. 10, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1959], No. 43712/59. Class 140. An apparatus for coating textile or paper webs 11 with a viscous material 1 comprises a roller 2 and a knife blade 3 co-operating therewith to form a reservoir of the material 1 behind the blade and to form a metered film 26 of the material 1 on the roller 2, and a roller 12 in wiping contact with, and rotating in the same direction as, the roller 2 for to feed the web 11 in contact with the roller 2 and transfer the film 26 to the web. The rollers 2, 12 are driven at the same velocity by a gear-wheel 16 and bearings 19 for the roller 12 are adjustable in a guide 20 by worm gears 24, 25, nut 22 and rod 21. The blade 3 is adjustable by worm-gearing 9, 10, nut 7 and rod 6. A wall 4 forms the back of the reservoir on the roller 2, which has a doctor blade 27.
