894,816. Refrigerating. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Nov. 11, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 35192/61. Divided out of 894,216. Class 29. In a refrigerated chest, having inner and outer cylindrical casings 21 separated by insulation 3 and cooled by thermo-electric couples 4 arranged in the insulation with their hot and cold junctions in heat exchange respectively with the exterior and interior of the chest, each couple is removable as a unit through the exterior of the chest for replacement. Each unit comprises two semiconductor elements 5, 6 the cold junction of which is formed by a conducting bar 8 and the hot junction of which is formed by bars 7, 9, all these parts being embedded in a plastic casing 10 filled with insulating material and fitting closely in an aperture in the insulation 3. Junction bars 7, 9 carry detachably heat exchange plates 14 joined by detachable conductors 19 to connect the couples in series. Bars 8 carry detachably heat exchange plates 13 which are covered with electrically-insulating lacquer and are opposed to the inside of the chest or which, as shown, lie outside the casing 2 made of thin electricallyinsulating sheet material which is preferably perforated and removable. The units are disposed in two annular rows around the chest.
