A tube bender comprises a mandrel or former having a peripheral bend-forming groove, a shoe having a tube-pressing surface, and means connecting the shoe to the mandrel for movement of the shoe in a path circumjacent said groove and with said surface confronting the groove to urge a tube into the groove during such movement, said connecting means including means permitting movement of the shoe outwardly from said path at only one point in said path and maintaining said shoe in said path at all other points therein. A tube T is bent around a peripherally grooved former 11 by a grooved shoe 14 pivoted about a post 25 coaxial with the former 11 by an adjustable handle 15. The shoe 14 is provided with two arms 20 each having a hole 22 having a circular portion 23 and a rectangular recess 24. The post 25 which has two flat sides and curved ends, extends into the holes 22, the arrangement being such that the direction of elongation of the recess 24 is aligned with the direction of elongation of the post 25 only at the beginning of the bend and 180 degrees from that position. A pin 35 on the arm 20 engages an annular groove 36 in the side of the former 11, the groove having one radial channel 37 arranged so that the shoe 14 can be moved away from the former 11 only at the beginning of the bend, to allow a tube to be inserted, and not at the 180-degree position. Thus to remove the bent tube the shoe 14 is pivoted back to the starting position.
