Abstract

886,805. Coating filaments. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E.I. Oct. 13, 1960 [Oct. 30, 1959], No. 35066/60. Class 140. An apparatus for applying liquid to moving filamentary material 15 comprises a reservoir 12 having a driven applicator roll 14 and a metering pump 13 delivering liquid from a tank 10 to the reservoir 12, the pump being synchronized with means 20 for forwarding the material 15 through the apparatus, automatic control means being provided comprising a pressure-responsive device 23 connected to the reservoir 12, voltage control means 24 controlled by the means 23, and a variable speed motor 18 controlled by the means 24 and driving the roll 14. Thus, the speed of rotation of the roll 14 is varied in accordance with the height of liquid in the reservoir, being increased as the height increases and vice versa.
