Abstract

885,656. Steel structional bars. MACOMBER Inc. March 23, 1959, No. 9978/59. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXII] A laminated member 1 for a steel joist, beam, girder &c. (not shown) comprises a plurality of hot-rolled steel laminations 10, 10a bent into tubular form and having flanges 17 spaced by an opening 16, the laminations being connected together throughout the length of the member. The laminations, each of a maximum thickness of 0À23 inches, are joined at 19, 20 and 21, e.g. by spot-welding or pinning (Fig. 8, not shown). Mill-scale 37 (Fig. 7, not shown), loosened by rolling the laminations to shape, becomes embedded in the opposite surfaces of the laminations, keying them together. Welding 24 at spaced points holds the flanges together.
