Abstract
832,432. Making bedstead frames; angular bending. SPIEGELMAN, M. Oct. 28, 1957, No. 33500/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a method of forming a bend, e.g. for a corner of a bed-mattress frame or for a joint in a roof-truss construction, from straight metal section having a base member and one or more flanges and/or webs extending along the same side of the base member at right angles thereto, an area is removed from each flange or web, which area extends across the flange or web from the junction with the base member and is of such configuration that, on bending the base member, corresponding opposite edges left from such removal are butted together and the remaining lengths of said edges are simultaneously gathered within a corner of predetermined radius. The resulting angle is secured by welding. A 90 degrees-angle bend is made by punching an area defined by the points a, b, d, f, e, c from the flange 1 of a straight angleiron, Fig. 1, and bending the flange 2 until the edges ce and df abut, the edges ac and bd rolling into contact with the edge ab and acting as a templet to determine the external radius of the bend. The flange 1 may be predrilled at the points a and b. A single length of angle-iron may be bent, using 90 degrees angles as described, to form a bed or divan frame, the ends being joined by welding. I, H or T-sections may be bent after removing an area from the web and where necessary from the second flange. Bends may be formed in channels by removing a similar area from each flange and bending the web.
