Abstract
884,814. Thermal switches. ROBERTSHAWFULTON CONTROLS CO. April 22, 1958 [Aug. 15, 1957], No. 12788/58. Class 38 (5). In a switch similar to that described in Specification 786,306, the contact gap when the movable contact is in an inoperative position is increased beyond the normal gap when the switch is in its operative position. The contacts may be cycled on and off by a capsule 24 acting on a snap action mechanism comprising levers 36, 46 and tension springs 44. The lever 46 carries an insulating member 56 resiliently supporting a bridging contact 62 and has a projection 68 for actuating a bridging contact 74, the contact 74 closing before and opening after contact 62. A temperature-setting spindle 20 carries a cam 112 which acts on a bell-crank lever 84 pivoted at 82, so that in the " off " position of the spindle, the cam tilts the lever 84 clockwise to push a rod 104 against the lever 46 to increase the contact gap. In a modification, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the member 56 carries both bridging contacts which open and close simultaneously.
