Abstract

Apparatus for treating, e.g. dyeing or bleaching textile materials in the form of slivers or continuous lengths of cloth comprises conveying means for effecting and continuing travel of the material along a series of units comprising (a) a first set of tank units each containing a cold bath including at least one of the substances required for the treatment, said tanks being connected to a reservoir tank by means of a circulation duct which includes a pump and control valves, each tank being followed by a squeezing unit working at an adjustable pressure (b) a steaming unit provided with means for a controlled injection of superheated steam and with means for controlling the residence time of the material in the steaming unit (c) a second set of tank units for washing the material, said tanks being associated with circulation means for the washing water and being followed by <FORM:0884616/IV (c)/1> <FORM:0884616/IV (c)/2> squeezing devices adapted to remove the washing water from the fibres; and finally, a drying apparatus of a conventional type. A preferred form of apparatus is shown in Figs. 1a and 1b in which the circulatory system for the liquid in the treating system (a) is shown while that for the washing unit (c) is not. In treating system (a), the material passes round the perforated cylinder 5, through which the treating liquid passes, and then through squeeze rollers 6, while the liquid is circulated via pump 7, to a reservoir tank, which may be heated by device 12, and back again to tank 4. The material then passes to steamer unit B in which it is subjected to steam jets 22 in the tunnel 122, subdivided over rollers 20 into its component strips if the original material comprises more than one strip and allowed to fall and age in concertina layers in chamber 16 which is supplied with steam via devices 22. The multiple strip is then reformed as the material leaves the steaming unit and passed into a series of washing tanks C similar to the treating unit A and then to a drying apparatus. More than one treating tank A and steaming unit B may be used.
