Abstract

884,346. Cooling peas and berries. STAL REFRIGERATION A.B. Feb. 29, 1960 [March 19, 1959; Nov. 26, 1959], No. 7023/60. Classes 29 and 64(2) Products such as peas, bilberries or strawberries are cooled or frozen while maintained in a fluidized bed. As shown the products form a bed 3 on a perforated bottom 2 through which fans 6 force gaseous fluidizing medium cooled by exchangers 5. The products are fed into one half of the bed by shoot 9, the bed being divided by a central partition 10 for most of its length, and flow along the bed, round the end of partition 10 and back along the bed to outlet shoot 11. The bed is further subdivided by partitions 12. The partitions 10, 12 and/or the side walls of the bed may constitute refrigerated plates. The perforated bottom may be vibrated. In a modified form the bed bottom is imperforate but has spaced apertures in its bottom through which spouts of fluidizing medium enter. The products may be precooled or mixed with other bodies, e.g. balls of artificial material.
