Abstract

1445882 Transportable refrigerated containers THERMO KING CORP 17 Oct 1973 [26 Oct 1972] 48330/73 Heading F4H A transportable container for preserving perishable cargo comprises a cargo chamber 50 and a compartment 25 containing the evaporator 30 of a refrigeration unit, cooled air from the compartment 25 passing through an exit nozzle 32 and a spaced conduit 34, having a flared inlet end 35 into the chamber 50. In operation, cooled air having a relatively high velocity and low temperature passing through the gap 60 between the nozzle 32 and the conduit 34 draws air of relatively low velocity and high temperature into the conduit 34 to form a tempered mixture which is discharged into the chamber 50 either directly or through pockets 41 formed between the roof 2 of the chamber and a closely woven fabric 40 secured to the exit end 36 of the conduit and to the roof, thereby providing a wider distribution of the mixture. A duct 38, open at both ends may be provided to enclose the adjacent ends of the nozzle and the conduit to improve the circulation of the tempered mixture. The floor of the chamber is formed of spaced grate members 14 through which air may pass to a channel 18 leading to the compartment 25.
