A bed rest has a tubular frame with side members 4 slidable on arms 3 pivotally mounted on the bed head and the upper cross member 5 carries locking rods 7, restricted to axial movement by projecting stop screws 8 through slots in member 5, the tapped bores 7a, 7b of the rods being engaged by left and right hand threads respectively of the ends 9a, 9b of a spindle 9 which can be rotated by a handle 6 to move the rods 7 into engagement with the periphery of arms 3 to secure the rest in the desired position.
