Abstract
870,436. Forging bolts. CERUTTI, G. Nov. 30, 1959 [July 24, 1959], No. 40638/59. Class 83 (4). A machine for forging bolts at a number of die stations 10a-10d, Fig. 5, spaced in a horizontal plane is provided with grippers for feeding the workpiece between stations, each gripper comprising a lower V-shaped member 42a-42c and a top self-adjustable pressure-member 52, 54 which is spring-loaded to hold the workpiece in contact with the lower member. The machine has a series of punches 9a-9d, Fig. 7, co-operating respectively with the dies 10a- 10d for forming the bolt E in a number of stages A-E from a round blank cut from bar stock T. Punches 9a-9d are mounted with universal adjustment on a horizontal slide 8, Fig. 1, coupled to a crank-shaft 6 driven. through gearing 4, 5, shaft 3 and pneumatic or other friction clutch 2 from a driving pulley 1. Bar stock T is pulled through a straightener unit 12 by feed rolls 13 driven through linkage 16, 17 from the crank-shaft 6, and fed to a cut-off station where a blank is severed by a transversely movable knife 19. The latter is mounted on a transverse slide 20 having a roller 18 engaging in a cam surface 21 of a longitudinal slide 22 driven through adjustable linkage 23 from the crank-shaft 6. The lower gripping- members 42a-42c, Fig. 5, are mounted on a horizontal transverse slide 40 movable on a vertical slide 26; slide 40 is coupled through link 44 for actuation by the transverse slide 20 and slide 26 is driven by lever 27, shaft 28 and linkage 29-37, Fig. 3 (not shown), from the crank-shaft. Upper pressure-members 52, 54 are articulated together at 53 and at 51 to a lever 48 pivoted at 47 to the slide 20 and biased downwardly by spring 50. A rod 49 actuated by link 44 raises the lever 48 at the required. time. The severed blank is fed between the knife 19 and a projection 41 on slide 40 to the first die 10a and is pushed therein by a swing- plate 55, Fig. 4, actuated by lever 56 driven from the longitudinal slide 22. Slide 40 then moves to the left and is simultaneously moved downwardly by slide 26. The first operation is then performed by punch 9a. Thereafter the blank is moved successively through the following stations 10b-10d by the lower gripping- members 42a-42c and their corresponding pressure-members 52, 54. From a left starting position members 42a-42c are raised by slide 26, then moved horizontally by slide 40 and are finally withdrawn obliquely to the left by simultaneous movement of both slides.
