870,367. Resilient mountings and buffers. METALASTIK Ltd. April 4, 1960 [April 29, 1959], No. 14683/59. Class 108(3). A block of rubber or like material has at least one partly embedded encompassing ring in a plane normal to the axis of the block which constrains the block when it is loaded in compression between its ends. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 of a mounting block two plates 11, 12 carrying studs 13 for attachment purposes are bonded to a rubber block 10 of double truncated conical form. Alternative mounting means such as nuts or internal threads on the plates may be provided. A circular ring 14 is partly embedded, to a depth of half its radial -width, in the rubber at its widest section. The ring may be made of synthetic resin or metal and of any convenient cross-section. Fig. 3 shows an embodiment in which a hollow rectangular block is used of truncated double pyramidal form with a rectangular section metal ring. The end plates 18, 19 are extended to give sufficient clearance for four bolt holes at the corners. Fig. 5 shows a buffer of tapering cylindrical form, the face end 21 being rounded and the broad end having a plate 22 and attachment stud 23. A number of rings 24, 25, 26 encompass the buffer and the distance between successive rings may decrease as the ring diameters decrease. The rings may be bonded to the rubber or be press fits in moulded grooves.
