Abstract

877,719. Treating charge; spray carburetters. BARKER, E. Jan. 28, 1958 [Jan. 29, 1957], No. 3117/57. Classes 7(2) and 7(3). Bores 7 placing vents 10 in communication via a duct 11 and a flexible or other connection 12 with induction manifold extra-air inlets 17 at intermediate suctions are closed at low and high sections by one or other of two resilientlysurfaced heads 6 of a valve controlled by a spring- loaded diaphragm 8 acted on by suction via a flexible or other tube 14. An open cylindrical, wholly or part conical or, as shown, domed wire mesh 24 projecting upstream or downstream, or a flat mesh, collects unvaporized fuel which is vaporized from an annular lip 25 by the turbulent entering extra-air. The inlets 17 may be in an adapter 18 between the carburetter 22 and manifold 23, or in the carburetter flange 20, when the valve unit 2 may be unitary with the carburetter and the ducts 12, 14 be carburetter body ducts. The member carrying the inlets 17 may have an internal annular recess into which they open, the lip 25 being the turned-down inwardly-projecting edge of a packing washer. The bores 7 may be replaced by a central bore with seatings controlled by conical valve heads. Either the vents 10 or the duct 11 may be replaced by an adjustable valve.
