Abstract

875,234. Bearings. TIMKIN ROLLER BEARING CO. Feb. 16, 1960 [Feb. 21, 1959], No. 6047/59. Class 12 (1). In a sheet metal cage member 2 for a roller 1 disposed in an aperture 3 at an angle to the plane of the cage member, two axially spaced portions 8, 9 of each lateral margin of the aperture lie substantially on the circumference of an ellipse and are engageable only by their edges 81, 91, with the periphery of the roller respectively at positions above and below the roller axis, at least one of the two axially-spaced portions consisting of a deformable tongue which can initially have a raised position to enable the roller to be inserted. The sheet metal blank is of the form shown in Fig. 4 and includes a lug 10 on one end edge 4 of the aperture which is subsequently bent down to engage an end face of the roller. In a modification, Fig. 8, only one tongue 12 is provided on each side of the aperture. The individual cage plates 2 have end flanges e.g. 11, 14, 15, to prevent adjacent plates riding over one another, or alternatively a continuous cage ring with all the apertures and tongues required may be provided.
