Abstract

875,036. Windscreen wipers. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Oct. 8, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 33691/58. Class 138(1). A windscreen wiper system has the downward and upward strokes of a wiper arm 5 and blade 3 respectively progressively restrained and assisted by a device connected to the actuator mechanism so as to absorb energy from and restore energy to the system during those strokes. The device results in regular up and down strokes unaffected by gravity. A motor 18 rotates a crank 16 connected to arms 15, 14 which oscillate cranks 12, 11 connected to the wiper arms 5, 4. The downward movement of the arms is restrained by the stretching of a spring 22 connected to the arm 15 and the frame 19 and the upward movement of the arms is assisted by release of the spring.
