Abstract

<PICT:0874029/IV (a)/1> A funnel thread guide for use in the centrifugal box process of spinning viscose rayon has a crenulated or undulate outlet rim which is provided with raised parts and recessed parts. The latter are of such a shape that, during spinning, they remain filled with liquid. The raised and recessed parts are constituted by two or more concentric annular subsidiary rims or ribs extending circumferentially round the funnel outlet and projecting to the same extent in the axial direction, and at least one annular groove separating adjacent rims and arranged to be filled with liquid in use. As shown, a funnel guide consisting mainly of a long stem 1 provided in known manner with a number of narrowed portions 2, over which slides a thread 3 to be wound, has a lower rim 4 provided with crenulations 5 which cause the thread to oscillate transversely to its path of travel. A groove 6, one mm. wide, which divides the rim into inner and outer subsidiary rims is provided in the crenulated rim to a depth of 0,2 mm. Liquid adhering to the freshly spun thread 3 is stripped off by the lower rim 4 and maintains the groove 6 filled during spinning, thereby reducing the friction between the thread and the lower rim. A mould which may be used for making the guides is described.
