Abstract
863,055. Mixing apparatus. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1959 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 2159/59. Class 86 [Also in Group IV(a)] An apparatus for continuous mixing comprises a vertically disposed elongated chamber having a height to diameter ratio of from 4 to 60, a closure member secured to one end of the chamber, a rotatable agitator shaft disposed within the chamber in a vertical position means for rotating the shaft, and a plurality of impeller units attached to the shaft in which the spacing between the impeller units increases in distance from the upper part of the shaft to the lower portion thereof. As shown in the Figure, material to be mixed is admitted to chamber 10, heated by jacket 13, through conduits 8 and/or 9, and the mixture subsequently removed from settling zone 23, via conduit 24. The mixing is effected by shaft 18, and paddles 21, assisted by baffles 11.
