860,219. Indicating liquid levels. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1959 [Feb. 2, 1958], No. 3155/59. Class 40 (1). [Also in Groups XVIII and XXXV] A liquid-level indicator comprises a pair of thermocouple elements 50<SP>1</SP>a, 80 having identical outputs housed in tubes 42<SP>1</SP>a, 42<SP>1</SP>b depending in sealing relation from the upper member 22 of a pressurized housing 20, an electric heating element 78 accommodated in a tube 44<SP>1</SP> coextensive with the tube 42<SP>1</SP>b, being connected to the latter by a heat-conducting link 76. The thermo-couples are connected in opposition in a series circuit including a meter 90. While the liquid level is adjacent the hot junction 82, the outputs of the two thermocouples balance but as the liquid falls, that junction becomes progressively hotter and meter 90, which may be calibrated in level, shows an increasing reading. When the level moves below the lower end of the member 76 the sudden increase in the electrical output may be made to operate a control device. Specification 785,489 is referred to.
