Abstract
868,712. Rectilinear - motion bearings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 7, 1957 [Aug. 10, 1956], No. 24533/56. Class 12 (1). In a rectilinear-motion bearing comprising balls 5 located in a cage 4 disposed between an outer cylindrical sleeve 1 and a longitudinallymovable member 6, balls 8, of larger diameter than the balls 5, engage grooves 9 in the members 1 and 6 to locate the members angularly with respect to each other. Axial movement of the cage 4 is limited by circlips 10 fitted at the ends of the sleeve 1. The grooves 9 may be of V-shape or semi-circular cross-section. As. shown, there are four rows of longitudinallyarranged balls 8 engaging longitudinal grooves 9 in the members 1, 6, thereby preventing relative rotation between the members 1 and 6. Alternatively, the grooves may be helical to control limited relative rotational movement between the members 1 and 6.
