Abstract

1,162,900. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967, No. 59140/67. Heading F2A. A bearing assembly comprises a ball bearing 20 and a roller bearing 21 supporting a shaft 16, the outer race 23 of the roller bearing being secured to or integral with a fixed structure 25, the outer race 31 of the ball bearing being connected by a radially resilient connection to the fixed structure. The connection comprises bars 34 angularly spaced around bearing 20 and secured at one end to member 35 which is itself secured to structure 25, and at the other end are secured to a flange 33 of race 31. A sleeve 36 is secured to member 35 and has dogs 40 which together with dogs 41 on flange 33 form a connection allowing radial but not circumferential movement of the race 31. Alternatively the resilient bars may be provided by a sleeve with axial slots angularly spaced around it. The sleeve 36 may be positioned radially within the bars 34.
